Vintage handwoven Moroccan rug from an area known as Azilal in the Atlas Mountains. This type of rug is becoming harder to find. especially older ones. When you look closely at the rug, you can see that the rows of knots are separated and the pile of the rug is lying flat against the rug. The back is finished off and has its own pattern and the rug looks beautiful on either side. The last picture shows the reverse side.
This rug has a beige background of undyed sheep wool. There is a checkerboard pattern on each side with rhombus shapes in the center. There is some red, yellow and green and the colors vary from one end to the other. Nicely bound off with fringe on one end. Condition excellent for age.
Rug measures 4’5″x 7’6″(229cm x 135cm) which includes 2″ fringe
Weight is ~12lbs (~5.5kg).
